How to make an animated sticker for Discord with AI
Huatua is a GIF generator built on OpenAI image models that turns a one-line prompt into a looping, sticker-style GIF you can resize and upload to your server.
What do you need before you start?
Permission to manage stickers on the server, a free sticker slot, and an idea for the reaction. Open Server Settings and look at the Stickers page to see how many slots are open; the number available depends on the server. You do not need design software or an account to make the first few drafts.
Step 1: write a prompt built for stickers
Stickers are viewed small, so pick one subject, one action and bold shapes. Name the motion first, then the character, then the background. Good starting points: “a chubby penguin doing a happy dance, plain background”, “a shiba dog nodding with a big grin”, “a cat slamming a keyboard in frustration”. Leave out tiny props and long text; they disappear at sticker size.
Step 2: choose the Sticker preset and a tier
In Huatua, select the Sticker preset. It centers the subject and draws a clean outline, which helps the character stand out against both light and dark chat themes. Quick renders 816×816 with 6 frames for one credit and covers your first three GIFs with no sign-up; Standard renders 816×816 with 12 frames for one credit with paid credits. Each loop takes about 20 to 30 seconds. Make two or three variations and keep the one that reads best when you shrink the browser window.
Step 3: download and prepare the file
Download the GIF; the file has no watermark. Then open the sticker upload dialog in Discord and read its current requirements, which list the accepted formats and the maximum file size. Resize the loop to 320×320, convert it if the dialog asks for a different format, and compress it until it fits. Huatua does not export Discord-ready files yet; one-click platform exports are planned for version 1.1.
Step 4: upload it to your server
In Server Settings, open Stickers, choose to upload a sticker, pick your file, give it a name and a related emoji, and save. Members can then find it in the sticker picker. If the upload is rejected, the message usually names the problem, most often the file size, so compress a little more and try again.
Which mistakes cost the most time?
Too much detail: thin lines and small text vanish once the sticker is shrunk. Busy backgrounds: ask for a plain background so the outline does the work. Recompressing the same file again and again: resize once from the original download instead. And skipping the vote: a free /g/ share link with a preview card lets the server pick a favourite before you spend a slot on it.
Frequently asked
- Can I make a Discord sticker for free?
- Yes. Your first three GIFs on Huatua are free with no sign-up, at 816×816 (Quick, 6 frames), and an account adds ten more Quick generations for seven days.
- Why does my sticker look blurry after uploading?
- Usually because it was shrunk a lot or compressed hard. Start from a simple design with bold shapes, resize once to the final size, and avoid recompressing repeatedly.
- Can I turn a photo of my pet into a sticker?
- Yes. Add the photo as a reference image, describe the motion, and choose the Sticker preset.
- Does Huatua export Discord sizes directly?
- Not yet. Platform export sizes are planned for version 1.1; for now, resize the downloaded GIF yourself.
